Each year in June, thousands of video game press gather at the Los Angeles Convention Center for E3. The expo started two decades ago as a site for press conferences where big publishers could give forecasts to the press who would then publish the information for fans. EA has gone on the record as saying that they embrace the competition that Activision provides witht the Call of Duty franchise, explaining that it’s great for the market, driving all parties involved to push themselves in order to best their rivals. Speaking to MCV, EA Games boss Patrick Soderlund reiterated that point, saying that he welcomes Call of Duty’s successes, before going on to make a more open threat to Activision that he is after their prized stallion’s head....

But from the ashes, a new hope rises. Shortly after buying Star Wars for a cool $4 billion, Disney ushered a series of new films through development, reuniting the beloved original cast and chronicling their adventures after the fall of the evil Empire. The first film in the new trilogy, The Force Awakens, hits on December 18, 2015; the next main installment reaches theaters in May, 2017, with a stand-alone feature called Star Wars: Rogue One coming in-between....

Some would argue, however, that it was EA and developer Victory Games’ approach that rubbed players the wrong way, not the idea of another CnC game. In fact, many fans have continued to rally behind the Command & Conquer franchise, even though it seems like EA isn’t developing a new game any time soon. Echoing that sentiment is a new community-managed and community-made online server for those Command & Conquer titles affected by the recent GameSpy server shutdown....

In its statement, EA first acknowledges the fact that it “turned on” advertisements in UFC 4’s in-game mid-match replays. EA says that “this type of advertising inventory is not new to the UFC franchise,” though it admits that advertisements have been located in different areas like the main menu or around the UFC octagon ring. From there, EA goes on to state that, “It is abundantly clear from your feedback that integrating adds into the Replay and overlay experience is not welcome....

The EA tweet took a jab at gamers who play single-player games and sparked ire online as fans and developers working on games for EA took offense to the notion that single-player games are a downgrade. USA Today and Kotaku reported that developers and executives of EA’s single-player games were outraged at the tweet. The feeling is that it minimized their contributions to the company and perceived as second-tier compared to their microtransaction-filled multiplayer games like FIFA, Apex Legends, Madden, The Sims, and others....

Sports games are often defined by the amount of modes in the game and the variety of ways players can play both a single-player experience and take on other players in multiplayer competition. Some of the best modes allow players to get immersed in the role of a player or coach/manager in that sport, and Be A Pro style modes give fans the opportunity to build their own career with a created player, while Franchise modes give players the chance to build a powerhouse program over multiple seasons....

It was announced on Friday that Wenger will step down at the end of the season, despite having one year remaining on his contract with the Gunners. Dying Light’s crossover event with Rust has already begun with Rust-themed weapons and skins available in the post-apocalyptic game today. We have now seen multiple trailers for the game, but the information on actual gameplay has been limited. We know that players of DUST 514 will be contracted mercenaries of factions from the EVE universe, and gameplay looks very similar to Battlefield. Unveiled today at their press conference after being rumored to appear, Kinect Fun Labs will allow gamers to get their hands on the newest implementations of the Kinect hardware, testing them and getting a look at what’s to come for the future of the device. Abandoning many (read: all) of the features that made the first Prey a cult classic, this sequel explores the storyline of a new protagonist with a new set of abilities. While it might have been a bit jarring to hear of the complete 180 the project is taking, this trailer is mighty compelling. In Prey 2, you are bounty hunter Killian Samuels, a survivor of the alien abduction that jump-started the events of the first game....

All this to say that, while Assassin’s Creed Unity had a slew of problems, it’s not a franchise killer. Assassin’s Creed has survived before. Still, the wounds from last fall’s disappointment are still pretty fresh, and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is under a lot of pressure to fix its predecessor’s mistakes. So far, so good. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is still in an early state - the demo that Ubisoft brought the E3 is an alpha - and it’s hard to judge the game’s technical performance, especially in a tightly controlled and fairly linear demonstration....

Fast-forward to this year, 2021, and E3 is proceeding as planned, albeit in a much different capacity. The same concerns have kept E3 from holding a physical event, but the team behind the trade show has worked hard remotely to put together a digital-only show that promises just as much hype as years past, with developers lined up to present game-hungry players with mountains of content to look forward to....

Reporting large sales over the last few months, Electronic Arts claims that Origin has reportedly reached over 12 million individual game downloads in its inaugural year. Origin’s own Senior Vice President of E-Commerce, David DeMartini, was pleased to report their fiscal and global success this weekend.
