Johnson’s rookie contract was set to expire after next season, but the Eagles didn’t want to risk losing one of the best tackles in the league. He has started all 44 games he’s played since being drafted, and has even played at left tackle when Jason Peters was injured.

Philadelphia has already signed contract extensions with tight ends Zach Ertz and Brent Celek. The Eagles’ next big decision — and first for new coach Doug Pederson — will be figuring out whether they want to return starting quarterback Sam Bradford, who is an unrestricted free agent.

Bradford completed 346 of his 532 pass attempts in his lone season with the Eagles for 3,725 yards and 19 touchdowns in 14 games.
