Player rankings are a hot issue in the Madden community and even with the real-life players as well. When ratings are announced, EA Sports makes a big deal out of the reveals, celebrating things such as Rookies getting their first Madden ratings, players who achieve 99 Overall Speed in the game, and players who obtain the rare feat of a 99 Overall Rating at their position.

It should be no surprise that this year’s top Quarterback and the first player to be announced as having an overall rating of 99 is Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes is coming off a season in which he helped his team win Super Bowl LIV in an exciting comeback and was thereafter voted the MVP of the game. The next two players on the list, Russel Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks (rated 97) and Madden NFL 21 cover athlete Lamar Jackson (rated 94) of the Baltimore Ravens ended the 2019 season competing for the League’s MVP award before it was unanimously voted in favor of Jackson.

So far, EA Sports has only revealed the ratings of the NFL’s 2021 Rookie Class and the Top 10 Quarterbacks. Throughout this week, EA Sports plans to reveal different player ratings with a focus on players who were rated 99 Overall at their position. Rumors suggest those players, including Patrick Mahomes, will be Aaron Donald, Stephon Gilmore, and Christian McCaffery. On Friday, June 17, ESPN will host a show discussing and revealing more ratings for Madden NFL 21.

Player ratings in Madden are always subject to arguments among fans, especially considering the Twitter replies to the tweet announcing the top Quarterbacks in the game. Plenty of fans are arguing that Dak Prescot should be much higher and that sharing a rating with Carson Wentz is insulting to the Dallas Quarterback. Other fans are claiming that giving Aaron Rodgers a rating lower than a 90 is disrespectful.

Madden NFL 21 has recently caught its own backlash from its player base, other than the player ratings, for the game’s Franchise mode. Fans were upset after seeing the trailer for Franchise Mode in Madden NFL 21 claiming a lack of change year to year for the popular game mode. Before this, fans expressed disappointment with EA over how Madden NFL 21 was handling upgrades to Next-Gen Consoles. EA has since changed its approach and made it more friendly to players who won’t be early adopters to the new consoles.

Madden 21 is releasing for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on August 28 with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
