The most important thing Starbreeze wants gamers to know that this isn’t just a straight up remake of Syndicate. While it will satisfy fans’ needs for a sequel/remake, this is also a conscious effort by Starbreeze to take what they have learned from their previous endeavors and apply it to this franchise.

Most recently Starbreeze has enjoyed some critical success with the first person shooter The Darkness and the two Chronicles of Riddick adaptations. What this means for Syndicate — whether or not it will have a first person shooter inclination — we do not know for sure, but EA Partners Executive Producer Jeff Gamon makes it sound that way.

For those that might be unfamiliar with Syndicate, think of the world like a combination between Tron and Deus Ex, where cyborgs can alter the digital world in order to give themselves a tactical advantage. In the original game it was up to a team of four (members of a syndicate) to complete missions for the player, sort of like Ghost Recon. EA does promise to keep most of the milieu from the original in tact, it’s removal of the top-down view point that will be the biggest change.

The only unfortunate fact about all this news is that Peter Molyneux, one of the developers on the original Syndicate, isn’t getting to live out his wish of recreating that world for the next-gen online space. Still, it seems like EA has put the game in good hands at Starbreeze, and we look forward to seeing what they come up with.

Are you ready for a remake of Syndicate from Riddick developer Starbreeze Studios? How would you like to see the property adapted for today?
