Microsoft recently provided a deeper look at Project Scorpio’s hardware, showcasing the console’s 4K capabilities. Microsoft appears ready to deliver most powerful console hardware in the market when Project Scorpio launches later this year. Here’s what Spencer says Project Scorpio will deliver with such powerful hardware:
However, it’s worth pointing out that this quote comes after Spencer spends the bulk of his time discussing how Project Scorpio was designed to be the strongest game development platform available:
Phil Spencer’s letter was released in tandem with invites going out to press for Microsoft’s Xbox E3 2017 Briefing. While the invites don’t specifically mention Project Scorpio, the graphics used on the invite do tie into the graphics being used to advertise Project Scorpio. Phil’s letter and the E3 invites going out at the same time certainly aren’t coincidence, but it probably doesn’t imply anything beyond: this is the last we’re talking about Project Scorpio until E3, after all.
Considering what’s left for Microsoft to discuss regarding Project Scorpio, it’s understandable that they wait for a big event like E3 for the reveal. In particular, Microsoft has yet to reveal Project Scorpio’s price, its release date, and of course its launch line-up. Each of those topics has been crawling with speculation. Project Scorpio’s rumored to cost anywhere between $400-600, it could launch anywhere between September and November, and it might not even have a launch line-up, let alone a bevy of secret projects Microsoft’s waiting to unload during E3. It’s going to be a fun two months until E3.
Xbox’s Project Scorpio, Microsoft’s follow-up console to the Xbox One, is planned for release holiday 2017.
