While it may sound confusing, the principle is really easy to understand. Xbox Live members will be able to link their save data and Gamertag info to any console, thanks to the data actually being stored on a remote server rather than a local hard drive. Xbox’s Marc Whitten outlined the program in the Microsoft recap email after the show:
Unfortunately, this brings up more questions than it does anything else. While we may be able to store our save data remotely, how much space are we allotted, and what happens if anything happens to it? Will the service come to only Gold Members? Can multiple consoles be activated, and can they be on at the same time? These are the questions that need to be addressed before the excitement can set in.
However, this is a big deal for Microsoft, particularly now that Sony is offering cloud storage to PlayStation Plus members. Being able to go from your home console to a friend’s and never have to worry about a USB drive saves time and more space on the hard drive, which makes everyone happy.
Will you make use of Xbox 360’s cloud storage once it goes live? Do you have any concerns about the system?
